So a magazine on the newsstand would look just like the online version of the magazine?

It seems to me that this offers the benefits of a similar product in both versions. You can refer someone to “page 10” and they can access it online. They also get the benefits of linking to advertisers, additional information or social media related to the topic in the article.

One of the things I mentioned in class was that new media adopt the forms of the old. What did I mean by this? It seems to me that this is an example of this, and I wonder if online magazines might evolve away from this model to one that takes full advantage of the interactive capabilities of the Internet.

Marceia, can you give us some examples of magazines that take the approach that you are talking about?

I work for the printing industry and yet the vast ...

I work for the printing industry and yet the vast majority of my communications to our members are via the web. Despite Steve Balmer's recent prediction that print would be dead in 10 years, nothing beats the portability of print. It can be mailed, handed out, filed away and all without a power source. I love electronic gizmos but good, old-fashioned print will be around for a long, long time.

as my boss once told me, there will ALWAYS be room...

as my boss once told me, there will ALWAYS be room for the dinosaurs :)
I just cannot imagine print disappearing completely.
